Atlanta United VR Golden Spike Experience Tangible VR

Utilizing HTC Vive sensors, this experience was developed to give fans the opportunity to participate in the halftime event of hammering the golden spike!

I collaborated with Fanboard and Atlanta United to provide this experience, usually reserved for celeberties and special guests. HTC Vive sensors were placed on a foamcore version of the hammer, giving fans the opportunity to hammer in the spike with full force. The experience was used by the Atlanta United marketing team at various pop-up events throughout the city in 2020.

The Challenge: Giving Fans a Special Experience

Provide fans the opportnity to be on the turf to hammer in the spike. The goal was to:

  • Increase fan engagement and participation at local pop-up events.

  • Create an unforgettable fan experience that mirrored the real event.

  • Utilize HTC Vive sensors to turn a foamcore hammer into a custom controller.

  • Connect the cultural heritage of Atlanta to the new soccer team.
